SHOWCASE WRITING.

 

FIRST BLOG POST REFLECTION.           

I chose to reflect on this piece because it was our very first writing assignment and led to all of the work we have done since this assignment. This piece of writing is representative of me as a writer because it shows my beliefs on what good writing is and what it looks like, which is all writing because I believe that a written piece produced by someone is good writing regardless of what others think. Picking a quote that I thought was good writing was difficult because of how much good writing exists in the literature world, but it was fun going through some of my favorite works. 

 

MY PERSONAL CREDO REFLECTION.

I decided to reflect on my personal credo because it was one of my favorite writing assignments. It was a piece where we were allowed to write how we wanted to write in any form we wanted to write and about any of our beliefs. I felt like I had a lot of freedom with what I could say and a lot of assignments do not allow you that. It is representative of me as a writer and a person because it includes my writing style and my personal beliefs. I think, this assignment shows a lot about a writer because it reveals his or her style and personality, which I think makes it personal and honest.

 

THIS I BELIEVE REFLECTION.

Finally, I have chosen to reflect on my This I Believe essay because similar to the personal credo it gave me freedom that not a lot of writing assignments allow. This piece was personal to me because it is about something I am passionate about and genuinely believe in. I had fun playing with my words and figuring out how I wanted to structure my essay and what kind of emotions I wanted to get out of my readers about the difference between reading a real book or reading on an electronic device. Although it was difficult figuring out what I believed in enough to write an entire essay on, I was happy with the belief I chose to discuss. 

 

INFORMAL DAYBOOK WRITING.

 

REFLECTION ON FIRST ENTRY.

I chose this daybook entry because it was the first one we did that had us read the writing of three great writers. It was interesting to talk about what I learned from each of the authors because it had me think more about what they were trying to say in their piece. This entry helped me develop my thinking of writing because it had me think more deeply about what the writer was trying to say and what I should have taken from their words. This entry is representative of my writing because it was the first time we were asked to look at someone’s writing and talk about what we learned and what we took away from it.

 

REFLECTION ON SECOND ENTRY.

Watching Randy Pausch’s lecture was one of my favorite assignments we had to do this semester because it was a very honest and touching talk from a person I do not even know. I chose this daybook entry because after watching the video, I had so much I wanted to talk about and that’s what this entry asked of me. The main belief I talk about is that he said he is dying and still having fun, which meant a lot to me because I try to live by that rule as well. This entry helped me develop my thinking of writing because I had to pick something he has and elaborate on it and give my personal opinions. 

 

REFLECTION ON THIRD ENTRY.

I have chosen to reflect on this entry because it was a bit more difficult for me to write about. We were supposed to pick two beliefs we believe in and write about them. I had difficulty because I had to choose beliefs I knew I would be able to elaborate on and give some sort of personal experience about. That is how it reflective of me as a writer because it shows my reader what my beliefs are and why I believe in them. This entry shows my writing progress because it is more personal and displays how I relate to my reader with my own thoughts and opinions.

 

REFLECTION ON FOURTH ENTRY.

I enjoyed this entry because the video we were shown of the show called Dexter was fascinating to me having never watched the show before. It was interesting reflecting on it and comparing it to the Nacirema piece because they both had similar aspects, stylistically, in the fact that they both used exaggeration to get the point across. This entry helped develop my writing because it had me compare two different things and find the similarities within the two. Although the clip was about a serial killer and the written piece was about America, I had to find how they were similar in some way. It is reflective of me as a writer because it shows how I can take two things and find the differences and similarities within them; it shows my perspective as a writer.

 

REFLECTION ON FIFTH ENTRY.

I chose to reflect on this daybook entry because it had me take an idea and compare it to research, which I thought was interesting. Burke’s theory is described in a completely different way, but what I found interesting was that it still had a way of describing inquiry research. This assignment developed my writing because it had me try to find the similarities between an idea and a form of research. It had me look beyond what the author was saying and try to think about how it related to something else.
